Babette’s Feast is one of my favourite movies…and stories. Love Isak Dinesen.

The thing is, I wanted to be way more moved by Babette’s Feast than I was…. I feel like i need to re-watch it, because something was missing for me, and i’,m not sure what it was…

  • skratula says:

As a fan of Isak Dinesen I could be biased. On a whole I found it fairy tale like without being cloying- a simple story illustrating how good food and a chef’s talent can bring people together (even ascetics) and loosen them up.

I didn’t really think Out of Africa did Dinesen’s writing justice (never a huge fan of Sydney Pollock as a director) so I was happy to see that Babette’s Feast tried to incorporate/embody some of the artistry of her prose.
